A project realized
See, I said there were things in the works. (It still needs some fine-tuning for just the right positions and shapes, but this is essentially the finished, and intended, piece.) Wool felt "mad hatter" style oversized form with upturned brim, hand-tucked band of black organza, silk and velvet rose with hand-formed half-bows of organza and Russian veiling. Hat is from Judith M; rose and veiling from Hats by Leko; the organza was a remnant that I cannibalized off another hat I decorated years ago (and that's going to be completely redone).
This was inspired by a photo I saw somewhere. I've been planning to create my own version--a little smaller and a little floofier than the original, more in line with my own style--for about a year and a half; I finally got all the pieces in place to do it near the beginning of this year. I'm pretty pleased with how it came out.
And while this is designed to be a standalone piece to join my overall hat wardrobe and that can be worn with whatever I choose, it's also going to be part of something larger. After the upcoming weekend, I'll show you what that is.
